Ideal Gas Law

چکیده
Ideal gases are gases in which the particles of the gas only interact through elastic collisions; there are no intermolecular forces between the particles. Real gases can approximate ideal gases at conditions of low pressure and high temperature where the intermolecular forces are negligible. Under those conditions the equation of state for an ideal gas holds: PV=nRT (1) where the pressure (P) and volume (V) are directly proportional to the temperature (T). The constant R is the universal gas constant and n is the number of moles in the volume. If V and n are held fixed and a series of measurements of pressure and temperature are made, then Eq. (1) predicts a linear relationship between the pressure and temperature. It is therefore expected that a plot of P vs. T will be a straight line with slope proportional to R. Using a regression analysis of the plot, the slope can be found, and an experimental value of R determined. Title Title

We use Fermi coordinates to calculate the canonical partition function for an ideal gas in a circular geodesic orbit in Schwarzschild spacetime. To test the validity of the results we prove theorems for limiting cases. We recover the Newtonian gas law subject only to tidal forces in the Newtonian limit. Additionally we recover the special relativistic gas law as the radius of the orbit increase...

In this article we develop Poincaré ideas about a heat balance of ideal gas considered as a collisionless continuous medium. We obtain the theorems on diffusion in nondegenerate completely integrable systems. As a corollary we show that for any initial distribution the gas will be eventually irreversibly and uniformly distributed over all volume, although every particle during this process appr...
متن کاملIdeal gas behavior of a strongly coupled complex (dusty) plasma.
In a laboratory, a two-dimensional complex (dusty) plasma consists of a low-density ionized gas containing a confined suspension of Yukawa-coupled plastic microspheres. For an initial crystal-like form, we report ideal gas behavior in this strongly coupled system during shock-wave experiments. This evidence supports the use of the ideal gas law as the equation of state for soft crystals such as...

متن کاملObtaining Laws of Thermodynamics for Ideal Gases Using Elastic Collisions
The purpose of this note is to see to what extent ideal gas laws can be obtained from simple Newtonian mechanics, specifically elastic collisions. We present simple one-dimensional situations that seem to validate the laws. The first section describes a numerical simulation that demonstrates the second law of thermodynamics. The second section mathematically demonstrates the adiabatic law of ex...
